In the example, a seven deep block could be utilized as four-deep on one side and three-deep on the other; or five deep on one side and two-deep on the other; or even seven deep. (b) Aisles should be designed and designated as either “main aisles” or “cross aisles”. Main aisles have heavier, multi-purpose traffic and should be wider accordingly. (c) Cross aisles should be designed and designated exclusively for floor storage block stacking pallet handling. (d) It is sometimes efficient and effective to locate blocks along main aisles to increase the number of fronts and value-added transactions along a main aisle. (f) Walls should almost always be utilized for storage to make best use of floorspace devoted to aisles.
