adidas adidas is one of the world’s most recognized sports footwear, apparel, and equipment brands. It is the largest sportswear manufacturer in Europe, and the second largest in the world. The company was started by Adolf Dassler in his mother's house; he was joined by his elder brother Rudolf in 1924. In 1949, following a breakdown in the relationship between the brothers, Adolf created Adidas, and Rudolf established Puma. In 1952, following the 1952 Summer Olympics, Adidas acquired its signature 3-stripe logo from the Finnish athletic footwear brand Karhu Sports, for the equivalent of 1600 euros. Current annual revenues are on the order of $25 million USD. Current employment is on the order of 60,000 associates.
